Lemuy Island · Chiloé
Muelle de los Brujos
Where the legends of Chiloé are born
The legend
This is where the witches met
You see, here in Chiloé the old folks never spoke of the brujos out loud. They said the warlocks met in secret, had their own caves and rules, and at night flew from island to island wearing their macuñ, a skin vest that gave them wings.
And the elders of Lemuy say that right here, on this pier facing the channel, is where the witches of the archipelago gathered. They came when the fog rolled in, lit their lanterns and held their rituals by the sea, waiting for the lights of the Caleuche ghost ship.
Today the pier is a place for families to stroll, watch the sunset and swing out over the water. But if you come at dusk and stay very quiet… you might hear something more than the waves.
